Our Professional Pathways program recently launched its new “Career Club,” an offshoot of our Job Club. The four-session career development series assists eligible professionally-focused refugee, immigrant, and asylee clients in returning to their former careers, continuing higher education, or transitioning into jobs that utilize their established skill sets.
The workshops offer focused professional coaching and include:
- Sessions centered around searching for employment.
- Workshops on writing professional resumes and cover letters.
- Mock interview simulations.
IIB’s ONA Professional Pathways team, which includes Lead Coordinator Mirvet Bassam, Case Manager Lauren Gertner, and Job Coach Maya Miller, already assists clients in creating accounts on popular employment conduits such as Indeed, boosting their profiles by adding skills and applying for jobs.
Our most recent resume workshop featured IIB Human Resources Director Carrie Florea, who presented on creating professional resumes and preparing for interview questions before holding an open forum. Our inaugural Career Club class runs through mid-March, with extended workshops planned for computer literacy, TOEFL prep, and financial aid for college enrollment.
The International Institute of Buffalo’s Professional Pathways program helps immigrants, refugees, and asylees return to former professional careers or to continue higher education to attain the credentials they need to ply their trade in the USA. We’ve helped people in occupations, including accountants, pharmacists, and architects. We also train people to work as rank-and-file employees in the manufacturing, landscaping, and hospitality industries.
